School Plan
The PhD program in Mathematics includes Mathematics Courses, Interdisciplinary Activities and Research Activities and it is structured over three years as follows:
First Year:
This year is generally devoted to completing the scientific training begun during the Master’s degree program. It focuses on scientific orientation and the acquisition of the specialized skills necessary to develop an appropriate research project, and ultimately on the initial stages of thesis work. The doctoral students are required to participate in educational activities such as courses, seminars, and workshops organized by partner universities or by other universities or research institutes. The PhD students are also expected to attend conferences, workshops, and schools of significant educational and scientific relevance, incorporating these into their study plan.
Second and Third Years:
These years are primarily dedicated to research activities related to the doctoral thesis. The doctoral students are expected to participate regularly in international scientific events in their chosen field, as well as in related areas deemed beneficial to their academic development.
The following table provides a year-by-year summary of the educational program’s structure.
Disciplinary activities Interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary activities Academic and professional training activities | Cross-disciplinary (transversal) activities | Research activities | |
---|---|---|---|
First Year | At least 40 CFU (ECTS) credits, of which at least 30 ECTS should be disciplinary activities in the first year; 20 ECTS must be earned through activities specifically related to the doctoral program | At least 20 CFU (ECTS) credits between the first and second year | No requirement |
